The Baron Welcomes You to Zichron

A lovely couple from Connecticut just finished a year end holiday in Israel at our zimmer (aka “bed and breakfast”) in the Carmel Mountains, Shalom Zichron B&B. They seemed especially pleased to have a high quality queen-sized mattress and down quilts after the scratchy sheets and thin mattresses they found in hotels throughout Israel. And they joked that they could barely button their jeans after enjoying our tasty homemade breads and muffins in the morning.

I was asked for recommendations for nearby outings, and pleased to give them some of my favorite places to visit.

1. There is no place in Israel more beautiful to visit on a sunny winter morning than the beach at Hof Dor, which our guests can see from their private porch. The beach has a wild, unspoiled feeling that is increasingly hard to find — in Israel or anyplace else. The Tel (archaeological site) at the Dor beach dates back 3000 years, and it is easy to imagine the hustle and bustle of the ancient port town while sitting on the ruins.

2. The Amphorae Vineyard (http://www.amphorae-v.com ) is located just 15 minutes north of our Zichron bed and breakfast, nestled in the Carmel mountains. The wines are world class and the romantic tasting room is in a stone built country inn located on the Makura ranch — an organic farm planted with olive and almond groves.

3. Ein Hod, the famous artist village, (www.ein-hod.info )is another easy day trip from Zichron Yaacov and our guest house. There, one can find anything from funky earrings to larger-than-life sculptures. The galleries are located throughout the winding lanes, and delicious home baked desserts are waiting for the hungry at the Ein Hod Cafe.

Zichron Yaacov, Israel (also spelled Zichron Yaakov, Zihkron Yakov, Zichron Yawacov, Zichron Ya’aqov and many other variations…) is located about an hour’s drive north of Tel Aviv, and about a half hour’s drive south of Haifa.

The ShalomZichron bed and breakfast (called a “zimmer” in Hebrew) is a studio apartment with an amazing view of the Sea. Our guests enjoy the brilliant sunsets from their rocking chairs on the porch that leads to a private garden shaded by olive trees.

The apartment includes a complete, fully stocked kitchenette and private bathroom. The studio comfortably sleeps 2 adults, with the option of renting an additional adjacent bedroom with half bath. Kids are welcome, and additional mattresses and bedding are available upon request.
